Stronger Water Restrictions In Place
Greater Vernon Water customers are being asked to reduce their water use by ten percent.
The water service has implemented stage one restrictions , which quality manager Renee Clark allow for three day a week watering.
“For odd addresses, they can water Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The even addresses can water Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. There is no watering allowed on the Mondays,” says Clark.
Clark says precipitation in June was very low, while water demand has increased.
“Duteau Creek water reservoir readings taken by GVW staff on July 19 show that the reservoirs have dropped below normal levels despite reaching maximum reservoir capacity in
early May.”
She says based on forecasts for continued hot and dry weather, GVW urges customers to use water wisely and choose alternatives to using water when possible.
For example: Use a broom or blower for driveway clean up. Use a bucket for washing vehicles or a hose with an automatic off trigger nozzle.
Stage 1 Water Restrictions, ask customers to do what they can to conserve water and voluntarily reduce water use by 10%. If Stage 2 Restrictions are needed, it will shift from voluntary conservation to a mandatory 20% reduction.
