Rain Won’t Make A Difference

That brief downpour this morning in downtown Vernon was fairly isolated.

Alyssa Charbonneau with Environment Canada says it wasn’t even enough to register with their local weather station.

She says what may come later today will be scattered but likely not enough to ease the dryness here.

“Amounts are not expected to be too heavy really, unless you had a local thunderstorm that came over you and could give a local, heavier amount. We’re not expecting a huge amount for the Okanagan.”

The Vernon weather station hasn’t measured much at all over the last month.

“The last time we had measurable precipitation at the Vernon weather station was June 28th. But we only had point 3 millimetres of precipitation that day.”

Prior to that it was June 16th when just 1.1 millimetre of rain fell.

The last significant rainfall was June 1st with 16.6 millimetres.

Charbonneau says some thunderstorms developed further north west but they haven’t hit any weather stations and have tapered off.

The North Thompson or the Shuswap has potential for maybe ten millimetres but even that is fading..

There were some lightning strikes near Kamloops and to the northeast of Salmon Arm.

Charbonneau says once this system passes through we’ll be back into the dry and hot weather.
