Man Sentenced For Killing Spouse

Jul 19, 2017 | 5:29 PM

A Lumby man who murdered his common law spouse will have to spend 13 years in prison before being eligible for parole.

That was the sentence given to 57 year old Howard Krewson who was convicted of the second degree murder of 51 year old Linda Stewart.

The Crown was seeking a 15 year term, while the defence had sought 10 to 12 years.

The minimum sentence for second degree murder is 10 years before parole eligibility.

Krewson shot Stewart in her car as she got set to drive away after the couple had an argument at their Lumby area home in 2014.

Krewson also shot himself in the face in an attempted suicide.

Krewson’s lawyer had argued his client was too drunk and stoned to form the intent to murder Stewart which a jury rejected.

Justice Frank Cole called the killing brutal.
