Falkland Pit Stop For Fire Evacuees

Fire evacuees traveling through Falkland have a place to stop, get a free bite to eat and have their pets taken care of.

The Falkland Seniors and local members of the Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team
have set up in the Falkland Community Hall.

Shirley Zolondek with the seniors says they just wanted to help.

“Yes, for coffee lunches, whatever we’ve got. We’re just going to put it out for them. We’ve got dog stuff, dog food. dog supplies”

Gena Sandli with C-Dart says it gives evacuees to take a break and gather their thoughts.

“Because we’ve been noticing that people have been registering in Kamloops and then continuing on driving and forgetting to pick up animal food and actually having something to eat and we’re actually the kind of lull between here and Vernon and here in Armstrong.”

Information is also available for people with pets and other animals.

“Where they can find people who are allowing them to come into their own homes, entering their own property to put horses and livestock.”

The centre is open from 8 am to 8 pm all week.
