School's Out for Literacy

Fundraiser underway to support local literacy programs

Jun 10, 2026 | 12:27 PM

A fundraiser has been launched to support readers, young and old, in Vernon and the surrounding area.

The Literacy Society of North Okanagan is running its School’s Out for Literacy fundraising initiative, with the goal of raising $5,000 to support local literacy programs.

The society provides free reading, writing, digital literacy and after-school learning programs for people of all ages, and said the participants can hone their skills while also building confidence, independence and connection.

“Literacy impacts every stage of life,” said Michelle Bylow, executive director of the Literacy Society of the North Okanagan.

“Whether it’s a child discovering the joy of reading, an adult improving essential literacy skills, or a senior learning how to navigate technology and stay connected, these programs change lives. We’re inviting the community to come together to help keep them free.”

People can donate to the campaign online here.
