Special weather statement continues for Okanagan Connector

Jun 10, 2026 | 10:45 AM

A special weather statement remains in effect for the Okanagan Connector on Wednesday as Environment Canada warns of light snowfall and rapidly changing driving conditions along the high-elevation route.

The advisory covers the stretch of Highway 97C between Merritt and Peachland, where forecasters say trace amounts to as much as four centimetres of snow could fall, mainly at higher elevations.

Environment Canada says an upper-level disturbance moving across southern B.C. overnight is bringing unsettled conditions to the region. Snow levels are expected to sit near 1,700 metres before rising through Wednesday afternoon.

Kootenay Pass and Pennask Summit may see the most notable accumulation early in the day.

Officials are cautioning drivers that visibility may be reduced at times and that road conditions could change quickly throughout the day, particularly in summit areas where temperatures hover near freezing.

Motorists travelling the corridor are being advised to allow extra travel time and adjust driving plans as conditions evolve.

The special weather statement follows a second consecutive day of alerts for the route, which is a key connector between the Thompson and Okanagan regions.
