Kalamalka Road Work Nearing Next Phase

Jul 17, 2017 | 9:22 AM

The construction on Kalamalka Lake Road in Vernon will move into the next phase in early August.

The City’s transportation manager Amanda Watson says the four million dollar project is proceeding on schedule.

“The contractor will have phase one of the construction completed before the August long weekend (Aug.4), and are planning to start phase two, with a full road closure, after the August long weekend, “Watson tells Kiss FM.

The first phase from 14th Avenue to Browne Road started in May and has created only minor traffic disruptions.

The total road closure — from Browne Road to the Alpine Centre — is expected to continue until late October.

“We will be issuing a media release with that information,” says Watson.

Motorists will have to use other routes, such as Highway 97, College Way, Husband Road and Aberdeen Road, to detour the closed area.

Businesses along Kal Lake Road stated their concerns about the project earlier this year, with many worried it will have a major impact on their customer levels.
