Jogger hurt in bear attack after running into cubs and sow in Squamish, B.C.

May 26, 2026 | 8:47 AM

SQUAMISH — A man has been injured in a black bear attack in Squamish, B.C., about 60 kilometres north of Vancouver.

British Columbia’s Conservation Officer Service says in a Facebook post that the attack happened Monday around 7 p.m., when a man was running on a trail in the area of Spit Road.

The service says the man came upon two black bear cubs and a sow, with the adult bear charging him and swiping at his arm and leg.

The man suffered minor injuries in the attack.

Conservation officers say the area where the attack happened has been taped off, and signs have been posted while officials return to the site to look for the bears.

In the meantime, the public has been warned to stay away from the Squamish Wildlife Management Area until further notice.
