A new hockey franchise has been formed in the North Okanagan.

The Enderby Icemen will be playing out of the John Pritchard Memorial Sports Complex as the newest team in the Western International Junior Hockey League (WIJHL).

“Enderby is a hockey town, plain and simple,” Mayor Huck Galbraith said.

“Hosting the Enderby Icemen at our arena is a win for our entire sports culture. I know our community will show up loud and proud. I cannot wait to hear the arena rocking when our team takes the ice. It is going to be electric.”

Enderby and District Services Commission Chair and RDNO Area F Director Allysa Hopkins echoed the mayor’s sentiment, stating the arena is “a fantastic venue” and that she’s “thrilled to see the energy that Junior hockey will bring to our winter season.”

The WIJHL schedule for the upcoming season will be released at a later date. Other teams in the league include the Kelowna Chiefs, Sicamous Eagles, Chase Heat and Golden Rockets.
