James Lloyd Wilson
December 22, 1956 – 2026
Age 69
James Lloyd “Jim” Wilson passed away at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy of quiet leadership, deep community roots, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
Jim was born on December 22, 1956, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to David and Jean Wilson. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to Vernon, a place Jim would proudly call home for the rest of his life. After graduating from Vernon Senior Secondary School in 1974, Jim wasted no time getting to work. Just days later, he started a summer job with Okanagan Telephone Company — a job that turned into a 38-year career as a Lineman. Jim took pride in hard work, reliability, and showing up for others, values that carried through every part of his life.
Above all else, Jim was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Wilson; his daughters, Jennifer Wilson (Bill Linkletter) and Stephanie Blumes (Chad Blumes); and the grandchildren who brought him so much joy: Rory Linkletter, and Audrey and Marcus James Blumes. He is also survived by his mother Jean Wilson, his sister Debbie Runge (Doug Runge), his brother Scott Wilson, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his father, David Wilson.
Jim loved the outdoors — fishing trips, camping, and time spent in nature were some of his greatest pleasures. But his second home was the soccer field. A true pillar of the Vernon soccer community, Jim gave decades of service as a player, coach, organizer, and volunteer. He organized the Old Timers May Long Weekend Soccer Tournament for 35 years and played a key leadership role in shaping soccer facilities in Vernon. His contributions included the MacDonald Park Clubhouse and Storage Facility, the Indoor Soccer Training Centre at Marshall Fields, and advocacy for all the outdoor fields at Marshall Fields. Many will fondly remember Jim riding his homemade rideon machine as he carefully lined soccer fields throughout the city. Jim was a quiet leader — someone who didn’t seek recognition but somehow managed to accomplish everything he set his mind to. He was known for his big heart, easy smile, and steady presence.A loyal and selfless friend, Jim was always willing to lend a hand, help out, and go the extra mile without ever expecting anything in return. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Coldstream Hall from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
