Truck fire in Kelowna parkade deemed suspicious

A fire inside an underground parkade at a Kelowna apartment building is being treated as suspicious after firefighters discovered a burning vehicle early Thursday.

Kelowna Fire Department crews were called to The Rise at 540 Dougall Road following an alarm. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke pushing through the building’s ventilation system.

The source was quickly traced to a truck on fire inside the parkade. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to other vehicles or parts of the structure. Residents were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters worked to clear smoke from the building. No injuries were reported and damage was contained to the vehicle involved.

RCMP have taken over the investigation and say the circumstances surrounding the fire are considered suspicious.
