Phased approach planned for EV chargers at Vernon ALC

Vernon’s new Active Living Centre will have electric vehicle chargers, but they will be installed in two phases.

A city staff report said Vernon’s Mayor and Corporate Officer signed an EV License of Occupation Agreement with B.C. Hydro to install 24 chargers at the ALC.

However, they won’t all be available at once.

“Since [signing the agreement in May of 2024], B.C. Hydro’s plans for the chargers have evolved and based on current demand, and the installation of other chargers in the area, B.C. Hydro has decided to install the 24 chargers in two phases; 8 chargers now in phase one and 16 chargers in phase two,” the report stated.

It went on to say the timeline for the second phase of the installation had not been set, but instead would be determined by the utility provider based on demand for the chargers.

Due to this change, an amended EV License of Occupation was issued and authorized on April 7, 2026.
