Repeat offender sentenced, banned, after series of downtown crimes

A 44-year-old Kelowna man has been sentenced to jail and probation following multiple property-related offences in the downtown core over a six-month period.

His sentencing includes a ban from Bernard Avenue where many of his offences happened.

Curtis James McNaught was sentenced Wednesday to 210 days in jail after pleading guilty to several charges tied to break-ins and vandalism between mid-2025 and early 2026.

With credit for time already served, McNaught has about 51 days left in custody. He has been held since a January arrest connected to the final incident in the series.

McNaught will also be subject to an 18-month probation order upon release, which includes an area restriction in relation to Bernard Avenue.

The BC Prosecution Service said McNaught is prohibited from being on Bernard Avenue in Kelowna during the term of his probation order, subject to certain exceptions, which include: (1) crossing Bernard Ave at an intersection with a street; and (2) with the prior written permission of his probation officer, which can only be granted for certain purposes.
