Some Progress Against Princeton Wildfire

Jul 12, 2017 | 12:22 PM

Firefighters battling the wildfire burning 10 kilometres north of Princeton are hopeful they’ll get some containment of that fire today.

Fire information officer Marg Drysdale says the fire is still at 2700 hectares.

“It’s chugging along but it’s largely being somewhat contained. It’s just not moving beyond our lines right at the moment.”

She says crews are taking advantage of that.

“We are working very hard to get some solid containment lines. They are working on machine and hand guards right now. The weather in the area is fairly still:”

Marg Drysdale says if the weather doesn’t change, crews could get a leg up on the fire.

“You knows we have the next two days at least that we’re going to have weather that’s fairly similar, so that’s good. That’s helpful on this fire.”

One hundred and 46 firefighters are working the fire backed by six helicopters and six water tenders.
