The North Okanagan is joining a global organization to promote healthy, active lifestyles.

Jason Pass, a teacher at Seaton Secondary and a B.C. Dragoons Army Cadet officer, is bringing Parkrun to the area.

Parkrun is a non-profit organization that brings running groups together for free 5K runs/walks in their communities every Saturday.

Pass’s Parkrun will take place on the Rail Trail starting in Coldstream, with the inaugural run/walk going at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 11.

Parkrun was founded and started in England in 2004. It had since expanded to involve 2,600 events in over 20 countries, including in Kelowna, which was the first one held in Canada.

People wishing to participate in the Okanagan Rail Trail Parkrun can register with the organization online or sign up at the trail head on the day of the event.
