Touchdown Kelowna to boost local tourism
Tourism and the local economy in the Okanagan are set for a boost as Touchdown Kelowna brings two BC Lions home games, a 10-day fan festival, and community events to the city this summer.
The province is contributing $1 million to support expanded seating at the Apple Bowl, temporary stadium upgrades, and festival activities designed to enhance the visitor experience.
More than 35,000 fans from across Canada are expected to attend the games, with additional visitors participating in festival events that include live music, local food vendors, and family-friendly activities. Officials estimate the series could generate up to $60 million in economic benefits, filling hotels, restaurants, and supporting local businesses throughout the region.
“Bringing high-calibre sporting events like these to smaller communities strengthens local economies, supports businesses, and creates good-paying jobs,” said Anne Kang, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. “Touchdown Kelowna is an exciting opportunity for Kelowna residents and visitors to enjoy sport, culture, and community in one vibrant package.”
