Canada’s Madeline Schizas sits 15th after short program at figure skating worlds
PRAGUE — Canada’s Madeline Schizas sits 15th after the women’s singles short program Wednesday at the world figure skating championships.
Schizas scored 61.35 points to her “Lion King” routine, losing marks when she stepped out of the landing on her triple loop at O2 Arena.
The 23-year-old from Oakville, Ont., qualified for Friday’s free program after she failed to advance at last month’s Milan Cortina Winter Olympics with a disappointing 25th-place finish in the short program.
Three-time world champion Kaori Sakamoto of Japan, set to retire following the event, led the women’s field with 79.31 points. Japan’s Mone Chiba placed second (78.45) and Amber Glenn of the U.S. sat third (72.65).
