Short term congestion

Boat traffic congestion expected along waterfront

Jul 30, 2026 | 5:22 PM

More traffic congestion can be expected in Kelowna’s waterfront as more boaters use the Water Street launch while the Cook Street launch is dredged.

The city has called on all boaters to use a designated route which involves moving north along Ellis Street, then turning left on Water Street at Prospera Place before turning right into the Water Street launch.

It’s hoped this traffic flow will reduce congestion, maintain emergency access, and improve safety for all road users and pedestrians.

In a media release the City said all boat-launch traffic approaching from the south must:

  • Proceed to Ellis Street
  • Travel northbound on Ellis Street
  • Turn left onto Water Street
  • Turn right into the Water Street Boat Launch

To keep traffic moving safely and efficiently, right turn only when exiting the launch onto Water Street.

Trailer Parking Locations

After launching, boat trailers should be parked in one of the designated overflow parking areas:

  • Prospera Place Parking Lot
    • Travel south on Water Street
    • Turn left onto Doyle Avenue
    • Turn left onto Ellis Street
    • Turn left onto Cawston Avenue
    • Enter the Prospera Place Parking Lot
  • 1746 Water Street Parking Area
    • Travel south on Water Street
    • Cross Highway 97 and turn right onto Boyce Crescent
    • Turn right onto Water Street and access parking area
