Local athletes got to showcase their skills as the freestyle ski Timber Tour #3 BC Championships was held at the local ski hill.

The third and final stop of the Timber Tour and Shred Series season was held at SilverStar Mountain Resort over the weekend of March 12-15.

The Timber Tour competitions involved moguls, slopestyle, dual moguls and big air events, while the Shred Series athletes participated in slopestyle, moguls and rail contests.

Approximately 200 athletes from across B.C. and the Yukon participating, including dozens from the local ski group.

Though SilverStar Freestyle Club is a relatively small club, they were able to field 33 athletes in the competitions.

“Despite our smaller size compared to the larger clubs, our athletes continue to hit above their weight at all levels” club President Carson Dorward said in a release.

The club did not provide any details about how the local athletes did in the contests, but did say Dorward was named Volunteer of the Year from Freestyle B.C.

The SilverStar Freestyle Club did note that its raffle fundraiser aimed at raising money for a landing bag training facility for offseason training continues through March 29.

“With a total project cost of $525,000, we’ve already secured most of the funding through strong community and partner support,” Dorward said in the release.

“Our remaining fundraising goal is $125,000 to bring this project fully to life.”
