The fifth annual local pickleball competition begins this weekend.

The Vernon Pickleball Sporing Tournament Series begins Saturday, March 14, with the Frostbite Classic Men’s Doubles Tournament. That will be followed by the Spring Fling Women’s Doubles Tournament on April 11, and the Battle in the Palace Mixed Doubles Tournament on May 9.

Held at the Vernon Pickleball Complex, organizers said this tournament has grown in size and popularity, and is drawing in players from across the Okanagan Valley and beyond.

“Both the men’s tournament and women’s tournament are full to capacity with 150 players registered,” Tournament Director Richard Chambers said in a release.

“The Spring Fling tournament sold out within an hour of registration opening and we can expect the same when registration opens for the Battle in the Palace on March 30.”

Players range in age from teenagers to people in their seventies, competing in skill divisions ranging from 3.0 to the professional level of 5.0+.
