Tiki Motel owners facing more non-compliance fines

Mar 9, 2026 | 1:32 PM

The group that owns the Tiki Village Motor Inn has been fined once again.

WorkSafeBC said it issued a $2,500 fine against Vermex Investments Ltd / Tiki Village Motel on Jan. 29, 2026.

“WorkSafeBC issued orders to this firm to address health and safety deficiencies related to issues such as violence prevention, working alone, and hazardous materials handling during renovations,” the agency said in an email to Vernon Matters.

“After multiple follow-up inspections and communications, the firm had not complied with all of the orders. The firm failed to comply with WorkSafeBC orders within a reasonable period.”

The firm was also fined $1,250 by WorkSafeBC in October of 2025 for the same issues.

The agency said the penalty was issued to motivate the employer to comply with occupational health and safety regulations and legislation.

The motel was shuttered in November due to fire code and safety concerns.
