UPDATE: Arson suspected at downtown Vernon brewery fire

Police have considered the fire that broke out at the Silver Star Brewing Company suspicious in nature.

RCMP said the fire started in the brewery shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, and damaged the kitchen area.

The fire was being treated as an arson.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway,” Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, stated.

“We are in the process of colleting physical evidence from the scene, as well as video surveillance from other businesses in the area. Anyone with information that may assist us in furthering our investigation is asked to please contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 545-7171 and quote police file number 2026-3085.”

The micro-brewery in downtown Vernon was the scene of an overnight fire.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) responded to a fire at Silver Star Brewing Company around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24.

“Upon arrival, crews observed smoke coming from the roof of the building,” the City of Vernon said on behalf of VFRS.

“After entering the structure, firefighters located an extensive fire in the kitchen area.”

The fire was contained and extinguished, and the building was ventilated. No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.

The investigation into the cause of the fire was handed over to the RCMP.

As of 11 a.m. Tuesday the brewery was closed with police tape around the front and back entrances.
