Former Vernon doctor found guilty of sexual assault granted full parole

Jan 8, 2026 | 2:49 PM

A former Vernon doctor who was found guilty of sexual assault has been released from custody.

Peter Inkpen was charged with three counts of sexual assault that occurred between 2018 and 2020.

In February of 2024, Inkpen pled guilty to these charges, and in July, he was sentenced for the crimes. However, was acquitted on one of the charges in November.

In total, Inkpen was sentenced to three years, two months, and 29 days, but was released just over one year into his sentence.

The Parole Board reviewed the case, victim statements, and psychological risk assessments and determined he was a “low to moderate risk of future sexual violence.” That rating did not change over the course of his time in custody. The written decision from the board also stated Inkpen, while in custody, was “bullied by other offenders”, placed in “voluntary supportive integration placement” and had no other noted behavioural concerns while in custody, did not incur any institutional charges, and successfully completed the Sex Offender Primer and the Community programs.

Inkpen was granted day parole in August of 2025, during which he reportedly abided by all conditions of his release and “remained transparent with [his] case management team,” leading to him being granted passes to travel outside of his release area, which did not result in any other issues.

After the most recent review the board decided to grant him full parole on Dec.19, 2025.

A number of conditions were issued along with his parole:

  • Not to consume, purchase or possess alcohol.
  • Not to consume, purchase or possess drugs other than prescribed medication taken as prescribed and over the counter drugs as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Not to contact or communicate, directly or indirectly with [the victims]; not go to or be within 50 meters of any place they live, work, attend school, worship, or happen to be. If he sees them, he must leave their presence immediately without any words or gesture.
  • Without the prior written permission of his parole supervisor, he is not to go to [an undisclosed location]
  • Immediately report all sexual and non-sexual relationships and friendships with females and any changes to the status of the relationships/friendships to his parole supervisor. This includes any attempt to initiate the above. Not to seek, obtain or continue any employment, whether or not the employment is remunerated, or becoming or being a volunteer in a capacity that involves a position of trust or authority towards other persons except circumstances of employment being approved in advance in writing by his parole supervisor.
  • Not to own or possess more than one mobile communication device or subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, without prior written permission from his parole officer and provide unlocked device(s) to allow monitoring of features including text messages, call logs, instant messaging, photos, videos, emails, social media, financial applications to his parole officer. Not to purge any information from the device without the prior consent of his parole supervisor.

Inkpen was also required to continue to reside at his family home and participate in private counselling and medical appointments.
