Local MP says he will not cross the floor, stands by Conservative leader

The Member of Parliament for Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee said he will not be leaving the Conservative Party.

In a social media post, Scott Anderson claimed he was approached by the Liberals and asked to cross the floor and join them, but he reportedly declined the offer.

“I have no intention of crossing the floor today, tomorrow or ever, regardless of what you offer me. It would be a betrayal of my constituents, a betrayal of the office to which I have been elected, and a betrayal of my own personal core beliefs,” Anderson said, in part, in his Facebook post.

“It’ll be a cold day in Hell before I even consider betraying my constituents, and you should probably stop asking because I will certainly advertise it every time you try.”

Anderson also claimed the Liberal Party was attempting to lure Conservative MPs into their ranks “so they can have a majority and subject Canada to more years of economic malaise.” He stated the governing party had promoted nation building projects but that has yet to result in any new pipelines, mines, energy corridors, or formal trade deals.

The local Member of Parliament also stated that rumors of members of his party seeking to remove Pierre Poilievre as leader of the Conservatives was untrue, claiming the Liberal Party was “afraid of Pierre Poilievre” and that “they’d prefer a milquetoast Conservative leader and not a fighter who stands up to their lies and omissions.”

MPs Chris d’Entremont and Michael Ma left the Conservative Party to cross the floor in the past few few months, and both of them suggested Poilievre’s leadership style was at least part of the reason for them leaving the party.
