Donald “Dan” Douglas passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on December 11, 2025 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. He was 3 weeks shy of his 77th Birthday.
Dan was born on January 2, 1949 in Edmonton, Alberta. He was the eldest of 3 children. Dan loved anything to do with airplanes as his Dad was an aircraft mechanic. He treasured every moment that he could fly with this Dad. Dan would go to aircraft museums, airshows etc. just to check out all the airplanes. He was especially fond of 3 or 4 engine airplanes such as the Douglas and the Eldorado. Dan grew up in Edmonton until his senior high school years where he graduated from Notre Dame College in Wilcox, Saskatchewan.
He loved sports of all kinds but was especially passionate about football. Dan played on a team called the Notre Dame Hounds, who at that time, were well known for setting records in provincial high school football championship games. Dan was proud to be a “Hound”. After graduation Dan went back to Edmonton for a short period before moving to Penticton. A few years later Dan decided to go to Okanagan College in Kelowna where he graduated and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. He worked for many years in Vernon at Alexander Wing and Polson Multi until retirement. He received an Excellence Award in his nursing career. Dan was a very loving, kind, compassionate and considerate man. He was a big man with a big heart. He also had a quiet faith that carried him through life and never left him.
He will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends and his furry friends. Yes, Dan loved cats. He had Matilda for many years before she passed and then he had Tammy and Harley. In Dan’s final years he walked Buddy, the cat, on a leash every day saying “Hi” to the neighbors in the neighborhood and Buddy enjoyed all the pats and petting along the way.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the doctors and nursing staff at VJH and KGH. As well, to all the kind, caring and supportive care staff at Creekside Landing who were there for Dan every day. We all take comfort knowing that he is now at peace and free from pain.
Family and friends will each honour Dan in their own ways, as he requested no service be held.
Donations can be made to the S.P.C.A., The Humane Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada. Condolences can be sent to the family by e-mailing ezduzer@hotmail.com
