Fire Fuel Management

Pile burning going in the Vernon area

Nov 3, 2025 | 3:01 PM

Vernon and area residents may notice some smoke in the air from wildfire prevention efforts.

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) said it had compiled four piles of wood debris to burn at the Bailey Road Seed Orchard, located about 13 kilometres south of Vernon.

The provincial firefighting agency said the burns would be done Monday, November 3, and into the following days, weather and conditions permitting.

Smoke from the pile burning may be noticable in Vernon, Coldstream, and the Predator Ridge area, as well as along Highway 97 and Bailey Road.

The BCWS said the pile burning project was aimed to reducing wildfire hazards by getting rid of fire fuels, and assured the public that the operation would be closely monitored and controlled.

The firefighting agency noted wildfire risks still persist and encouraged people report wildfires, unattended campfires, or open burning violations by calling 1-800-665-5555 or by dialing *5555 on a cellphone.
