Coldstream increasing parks and recreation fees

Oct 21, 2025 | 6:00 AM

People holding events in Coldstream will see their fees increase in 2026.

Coldstream Council received a report at the latest council meeting outlining changes to the Parks and Public Spaces Regulation Bylaw.

Among the changes was a recommended 2.5 per cent increase for rental fees and services annually from 2026 through to 2028, as well as the creation of a two per cent Parks and Recreation Enhancement Fee.

That enhancement fee would be used to fund the Parks and Recreation Enhancement Reserve, which is tapped for improvements and projects related to the municipality’s parks and recreational amenities.

The other changes proposed by staff in the report mainly had to do with creating more clarity and changing wording, though it also stated that open fires should be prohibited in all parks, with the exception of gas-powered campfires, which would require a permit, and gas-powered portable barbecues within designated areas.

Council received the report and gave the amended bylaw it’s three readings at the meeting on October 14. It will be adopted at a later date and the changes will take effect on January 1, 2026.
