A wild animal was sighted near a highschool close to Vernon’s downtown core Sunday.

A social media post by Debbie Wark said a bear was seen near W.L. Seaton Secondary around 11 a.m. Oct. 19.

“It went down 27A St, then I lost sight of it. Looks frightened, will hopefully find its way back to the hills soon,” Wark wrote on her social media post.

“Today’s not a school day, so there aren’t a bunch of kids around. Let’s make sure we don’t leave tempting food/garbage/pet food/etc out so he has no reason to come back.”

Wark said in her post that people can report wildlife sightings to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service by contacting the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) line at 877-952-7277.

The Conservation Officer Service told Vernon Matters that it did receive a report of the bear sighting, though no action was taken to track down and relocate the animal.
