Swimming advisory lifted at Rotary Beach in Kelowna

Sep 26, 2025 | 10:59 AM

The city of Kelowna and Interior Health have lifted the swimming advisory for Rotary Beach in Rotary Beach Park effective immediately. Water testing indicates bacterial levels now meet the BC Recreational Water Quality Guidelines.

The advisory was put in place on August 13 after E.coli counts exceeded safe limits, increasing the risk of illness for swimmers, especially in shallow water. City staff test and analyze water samples from local beaches each summer, consulting with Interior Health before issuing advisories.

Officials warn that beach water quality can fluctuate due to lake currents, plant debris, wildlife, and environmental factors. Swimmers are reminded to follow safety and hygiene measures, including keeping pets off the beach, disposing of waste properly, and not swimming if experiencing diarrhea.
