Polson Park naturalization work still on schedule

The Vernon Creek Naturalization project at Polson Park remains on track to be completed this fall.

A city staff report said the work at the park in downtown Vernon was progressing, with recent work including construction of the stream bed and placement of wood debris.

The report said crews had also been successful in a fish salvage ahead of the upstream tie-in, which was underway as of Saturday, Sept. 13. The bridge abutment construction was also underway as of time of publication.

It added water was already flowing through portions of the new channel.

The project remained on schedule to be completed before the Department of Fisheries and Oceans permitted work window closes in November of 2025.

The park remained open to the public with pedestrian access maintained via temporary bypass and bridge, though the interior park road remained closed to vehicles.

The project aims to revitalize the creek with the goals of reducing the risk of future flooding events at the park and improving fish habitat.
