BCGEU picket lines coming to Kelowna

The BC Government Employees Union, BCGEU, is expanding its picket line strike action to include Kelowna as of Tuesday.

The site at 478 Bernard Ave. will be one of eight new cities joining industrial action at public site locations across the province.

The union said Tuesday’s actions will represent an increase to 22 sites and over 4,000 workers on the picket lines.

In a statement the union said, in part, their key demands include resolving an ongoing recruitment and retention crisis in the public service.

It is calling for what it called competitive wages that address the affordability crisis facing public service workers, as well as fair access to telework, among other issues.
