The City of Vernon is making some improvements to a major roadway.

Construction of the 43rd Avenue Corridor Improvement Project began earlier this week on Tuesday.

The project will be done in two phases and will involve multiple additions along the road, including:

  • A multi-use path built on the south side of the road at Alexis Park Drive, past Alexis Park Elementary, and down to 32nd Street/Highway 97
  • A roundabout at the intersection of Alexis Park Road, 43rd Avenue and Old Kamloops Road
  • Controlled crosswalk established connecting the multi-use pathway to the Active Living Centre site and to Kal Tire Place
  • Upgrading underground utilities where necessary, such as sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water mains

The first phase will mainly involve the renewal of underground utilities. The main construction work was scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026, with the goal of having the project completed by the fall of 2026, in line with the completion of the Active Living Centre.
