Cultural Centre groundbreaking celebration to take place Tuesday morning

Aug 25, 2025 | 4:10 PM

Construction of the new museum and cultural hub in Vernon will kick off with a special celebration.

A ground breaking ceremony will be held to mark the start of the work on the new Greater Vernon Cultural Centre Tuesday, August 26.

The public are invited to bring their own shovels and take part in breaking ground for the Cultural Centre at the parking lot on 31st Avenue.

There will also be a performance by the Vernon Highlander Pipe Band leading a procession of cultural and artistic groups from the Vernon Museum to the construction site, where there will be a series of speeches before the groundbreaking.

The procession will begin at 10:50 a.m., with the groundbreaking to wrap up around noon Tuesday.

A portion of the parking lot will be closed to accomodate construction of the Cultural Centre, which will permanently take up numerous spaces at the lot in downtown Vernon.
