Need for speed: RCMP catch Civic flying past cars

Aug 20, 2025 | 11:36 AM

It’s been a busy year for speeders in Kelowna.

Earlier this month, RCMP impounded a white Honda Civic caught doing 218 kilometers and hour in a 70 zone along Highway 97.

The car was flashing its lights as it passed other vehicles, including a police cruiser.

The 36-year-old driver said he was being chased but couldn’t give details.

He received tickets, his car was impounded for a week, and his plates were seized

“Speeding at triple the limit is incredibly dangerous at any time of day,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol in a news release. “The financial penalties are serious, but there are many examples where this kind of speed ends in death.”

The Civic is one of 220 vehicles Kelowna BC Highway Patrol has impounded this year for excessive speed.
