There’s some relief for local residents just 24 hours after the Whelan Creek wildfire exploded into life near Kelowna International Airport.

The Evacuation Orders put in place Sunday, July 6, were rescinded late Monday.

Crews will continue mopping up operations and over 100 properties in the Ellison area remain on Evacuation Alert. No structural losses were reported.

RCMP had to conduct tactical evacuations Sunday afternoon but ground and aerial crews managed to hold the blaze by nightfall.

Central Okanagan Emergency Operations said in an update that starting at 6 p.m. Monday night, those residing in the evacuation order will be able to return to their homes. These seven properties will be downgraded to an evacuation alert and the previous addresses on alert will remain in place.

Full details on all impacted addresses can be found here.
