Fake signs claim poor water quality in Penticton float channel

Jul 7, 2025 | 9:42 AM

The City of Penticton is warning residents and visitors about fake signs and handouts that falsely claim the water in the Penticton Channel is unsafe.

In a statement, city officials say the materials are not authorized and are impersonating the city.

“These signs are not posted or distributed by the City of Penticton,” reads the release.

As of the latest testing by Interior Health, water quality in the channel and across all of Penticton’s public beaches remains within acceptable health and safety limits.

The city conducts weekly recreational water quality testing from May to October at several popular locations, including the Penticton Channel, Marina Way Beach, Okanagan Lake Beach and Skaha Lake Beach.

“Residents and visitors can always view the latest test results online,” the city said, pointing to resources available through both the Interior Health website and at penticton.ca/water-testing.

Officials are asking anyone who spots the unauthorized signs to report them by emailing publicworks@penticton.ca.
