Building permit values soared in first quarter

Apr 30, 2025 | 11:38 AM

The City of Vernon saw significant investments in new builds in the first three months of the year.

A staff report to Vernon City Council said the building permit values in the first quarter of 2025 was roughly $51-million. That was up from 2024’s Q1 which saw permit values of around $20-million.

There were 69 permits issued in that first quarter of 2025, compared to 62 permits in the same period the year before. Single family homes accounted for $23 million in Q1 2025, commercial buildings made up $21-million, and multi family projects were valued at $7 million.

Among the projects that contributed to the permit values was the Park Edge apartment complex at the intersection of Turtle Mountain Boulevard and Alexis Park Drive, a retail centre on Highway 6 at 15 Street, and Phase 3 of the Silver Star Gateway Business Park.

The report also indicated that the processing times for issuing building, development, and development variance permits/rezoning applications were all within the “green zone,” meaning there were no delays and were issued within the desired shortest timelines.
