It’s an extraordinary scene of construction activity in downtown Kelowna Monday.

The huge concrete pour of the foundation for the planned 43-storey UBCO campus tower on Doyle Avenue has been going since just after midnight. Dozens of crew are pumping the mix into the rebar and smoothing it.

It is the largest ever continuous pour outside the lower mainland.

The massive excavation is filled with workers operating in unison as about 70 concrete trucks supplying the many pumping cranes with around 5,600 cubic metres of material.

Doyle Avenue between Ellis and Bertram streets are closed off during the work, as well as a portion of St. Paul St. between Bernard Avenue and Cawston Avenue.

The 22-hour job is expected to wrap up at around midnight Monday night.
