Housing starts in Vernon continue to climb

Apr 21, 2025 | 2:04 PM

Greater Vernon saw more growth in the housing construction sector in March.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reported 15 new housing starts in the area during the month in question.

That was up from the six starts recorded in March of 2024.

The projects started this past March involved nine single homes, four apartments, and two semi-detached houses.

To date, there had been 56 housing starts in Greater Vernon in 2025. That was also up from the same period the year prior, when there were just 22 starts.

CMHC said there were 68 housing starts in Kelowna in March, and 541 in the Central Okanagan city in the first three months of the year. Both of those were down on an annual basis, though the housing agency did not provide figures from the previous year.

The local starts were part of 2,379 recorded in B.C. and 14,924 across Canada.

Both of those were down from the same month the year before, which saw 4,867 housing projects started in B.C. and 17,052 starts across Canada.
