Slope Stability Concerns
Highway 1 closed near Sicamous due to rockslide risk
Apr 11, 2025 | 5:09 PM
The highway between Sicamous and Salmon Arm was closed Friday due to slope stability concerns.
The province said engineers examined a section of the bluff alongside Highway 1 between Old Sicamous and Silver Sands Roads where the rock came down off the slope Thursday, April 10, and determined that additional rock and debris could fall onto the highway.
The province ordered that section of the highway be closed on April 11, noting it could remain closed throughout the weekend.
Area residents would be allowed to access Old Spallumcheen Rd. at the top of each hour with an escort, and emergency services would be granted full access over the weekend.
