Community garden to open at the RDNO’s agricultural park

The Regional District of North Okanagan announced that a new community garden would be opening within the sncəcmałqtn Agricultural Park this spring.

Located at 4122 East Vernon Road, the Community Garden will have plots that people can rent annually for seasonal gardening.

“We are committed to providing recreation opportunities that contribute to food security, community development, and positive social interaction,” Bob Fleming, Chair of the Electoral Area Advisory Committee, and Director of RDNO Electoral Area B, said.

“This community garden will enhance community agriculture in the area and provide a space for growth in more ways than one.”

Construction of the garden was underway and expected to be ready for use by May 1.

“This garden gives residents a chance to grow more than food—it’s where sustainability, culture, and community come together,” Amanda Shatzko, Director of Electoral Area C, said.

“By growing food locally and learning from one another, we’re planting the seeds of resilience and connection. I’m excited to see how this garden takes root and thrives in our community.”

The garden’s operations and maintenance will be administered through the NexusBC Community Resource Centre. People interested in accessing a plot can contact the agency online here.

The sncəcmałqtn Agricultural Park was established in 2024 after the RDNO acquired the property to create a community resource for agriculture, passive recreation and habitat conservation.

The park is a 132 acre space that is also home to the BX Ranch Trail.
