Two more sections of the Rail Trail through the Shuswap has been completed.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) said the sections between kilometre 0.5 and 4.4 from Sicamous and from kilometre 59.15 to 50.15 into Armstrong had been completed Friday, April 3.

The North Okanagan Rail Trail section at Armstrong was open for use, though the Sicamous section was still restricted due to construction to the Bruhn Bridge. The CSRD added there was limited parking at the Sicamous Narrows trailhead.

The CSRD also stated construction of the trail along Mara Lake began earlier in the week, and was expected to take six weeks to complete.

Work required at the site included erosion control, environmental work, culvert and drainage improvements, preparation and installation of the trail surface, fencing, crossing improvements, signage, and landscape restoration.

Flood erosion is also needed at the trail along Mara Lake to protect fish habitat, though the CSRD said that won’t be done until later in the year.

Construction equipment will be accessing the site from the Sicamous section of the trail and people travelling through the area were advised to be aware of the work in the area.
