After a brief illness, Peggy passed away peacefully at age 74, at Vernon Hospice House in July. Peggy is survived by her loving husband John, daughter Bonnie (Peter) son Gordon (Barbara) and grandson Zach, brothers Jim and Bob and many nieces and nephews. Peggy grew up in Vancouver, and after graduating from BCIT became a registered nurse and moved to Prince George in 1970. She later became a driving instructor and taught teenaged drivers for 15 years. Peggy was an active volunteer for many years, coaching track and field at school, teaching the Red Cross Babysitting course, and working as an official with short track speed skating in Prince George. As a chief timer, she travelled with skaters throughout BC and Yukon. She never complained about having to sleep on gymnasium floors in most of those cities and towns, it was all worth it. She realized her longtime dream when she was chosen to be Chief Timer in Short Track speed skating in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
When Peggy and John retired in 2001, they moved to Vernon where they met many friends in their community of Gracelands. She made lasting friends when she took up Tai Chi and practiced it until she became too ill to do it. She believed strongly in the teachings of Master Moy. Peggy and John travelled in retirement, taking many cruises and holidays in Palm Springs, Hawaii and throughout Canada. For her, the cruise through the Panama Canal was a childhood dream and it was her favorite trip.
Peggy touched many lives with her kindness, love and generosity. Her smile was always there for everyone, and her beautiful light still shines brightly. There is no service, but donations to the charity of your choice could be made.
