UPDATE March 25:

Predator Ridge’s application for a liquor license expansion has received local support.

Vernon City Council voted unanimously in favour of endorsing the application.

The motion passed without discussion at the regular meeting Monday, March 25.

A Vernon golf course is seeking to expand its liquor service area during the fall and winter months.

Predator Ridge has two golf simulators in its club shop, and is applying to the BC Liquor and Cannabis Regulations Branch to have its liquor license expanded to cover that area.

“It’s a seasonal application. We do simulators in the winter time, golf simulators, and we’ve been doing that for a couple years now with simulators in there, and we’re just looking to serve alcohol and food in there,” Sanjaya Mangalagama, Predator Ridge’s Director of Food and Beverage, told Vernon Matters.

“[The food and drinks] are from our lounge, which is just up the stairs from the current golf shop.”

Mangalagama said the golf sims are only open in the fall and winter months, and expanding the liquor service area would allow people who use those amenities to be served while playing, rather than having to go to the bar or restaurant for service.

“We’re just extending the service into the golf shop, that’s all it is,” he said, adding it will not require a bar or beer fridges being installed in the shop.

Before submitting the license extension application, Predator Ridge will seek for support from the City of Vernon at city council’s regular meeting Monday, March 25.

A report to council recommends council support the proposal, stating it would not have an impact on traffic, parking, policing or bylaw. It also stated the application aligns with the current zoning of Tourist Commercial, and is not expected to have any impact on the neighbouring properties.

Mangalagama did not say when the application would be submitted if supported by the city, noting there is not an immediate need as the simulators are closed for the season with outdoor play planned to begin sometime in April. An exact opening date remained unknown as of time of publication.

If Vernon council decides not to support the application, Mangalagama said Predator Ridge would review its plan, but he could not provide specific comments on what changes, if any, would be made to the proposal, or if they would decide to go ahead with the application anyway without the city’s support.
