UPDATE: Jack-knifed semi causes highway closure

UPDATE: 12:30 p.m.

Motorists had to take a detour on Barnhartvale Road west of Vernon while a crash on Highway 97 was cleared Monday morning.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP say a semi transport truck jack-knifed around 8 a.m. and was blocking traffic west of Monte Lake, with no injuries or other collisions involved.

“A frontline officer responded to the area but the situation appeared to have resolved itself and the vehicle was gone prior to their arrival,” Const. Chris Terleski told Vernon Matters.

The highway reopened around 12:30 p.m. after about a three hour closure.

DriveBC says Highway 97 is closed west of Falkland due to an accident.

DriveBC said the closure is between Barnhartvale Road and Duck Range Road, eight km east of Monte Creek.

A detour is in effect using Barnhartvale Road, Highway 1 and Highways 97A and B.

DriveBC said the next update on the closure will be at 11 a.m.
