School district outlines new budget to public

The pubic can find out more about School District 22’s (Vernon) spending plan for the 2024-25 school year at a meeting later this month.

A presentation on the District’s finances and budget will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 5:30 p.m. in the library at Clarence Fulton Secondary.

The budget includes over $135 million in spending to support the education of 9,000 students in the district.

SD22 Superintendent, Dr. Christine Perkins, will start the event with an update on the district, a view toward the future, and how the vision aligns with the board of education’s strategic goals.

“We have a talented and dedicated team of educators and support staff who work hard to make a difference in the lives of our students every day,” Perkins said. “We also have a supportive and engaged community that values education and collaboration.”

An overview of the finances will be provided delivered by secretary treasurer, Adrian Johnson, who will explain the sources of revenue and the allocation of funds for various programs and services.

“We are committed to ensuring that our budget reflects the needs and priorities of our students, staff and community,” Johnson said.

Board Chair Mark Olsen and other trustees will be at the meeting to hear the feedback the public provides on the budget.

“We are proud of the quality of education that we provide to our students, and we are always looking for ways to improve and innovate,” Olsen said.

The presentation will be followed by a question, answer, and discussion session where the public can provide input on the financial plan.
