A Vernon restaurant will be serving-up support for local people-in-need over the holiday season.

The Roster Sports Club Bar and Grill has announced its fourth annual Dish Out the Kindness fundraiser will take place throughout December, and is focused on reducing food insecurity and raising funds for the Salvation Army’s food bank in Vernon.

For every regular-priced entree purchased, whether for dine-in or takeout, in December, The Roster will donate $5 towards their $5,000 target. Additionally, The Roster will contribute $5 from all gift certificate purchases of $50 or more.

“Food insecurity is at an all-time high in our city,” Hussein Hollands, club owner, said. “The Salvation Army plays a crucial role in supporting our most vulnerable residents through their food bank and the need in our community has never been greater. We feel as a restaurant in the business of feeding people, this cause holds a great significance for us to champion.”

Hollands said the Salvation Army has been an anchor in Vernon for 117 years, providing essential assistance to families and individuals, including food, clothing, Christmas aid, and emotional and spiritual care through their food bank, family services, and thrift store.

Jen Thompson, Vernon Corps Officer at the Salvation Army, emphasized the significance of community support, saying, “Our organization relies on the generosity of our community to sustain the diverse resources and services we offer. The Roster’s commitment is immensely valued, especially during this time of great need.”

Hollands said giving back to the community has been one of The Roster’s mandates and key areas of focus the past few years.

“We plan to continue this fundraiser and other community-focused initiatives for years to come,” he said.
