UPDATE: Vernon team bows out of Canadian curling club championships

The Vernon team representing British Columbia at the Everest Canadian Curling Club Championship in Winnipeg is no longer in contention for the title.

After going 4-2 in the round robin, Tyler Orme’s team won their first playoff game 11-8 over Nova Scotia, followed by losses to Saskatchewan (8-4) and Quebec (11-3) to bow out of the double knockout event.

The Vernon rink also includes Trevor Perepolkin (third), Rob Nobert (second) and Jamie Austin (lead).

Alberta, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Quebec play in the semi finals on Saturday.

A Vernon team representing B.C. at the Canadian club curling championships in Winnipeg is into the quarter finals.

Tyler Orme’s team has won three straight games after an 11-8 victory over Nova Scotia.

B.C. will play Saskatchewan on Friday morning.

A Vernon team representing British Columbia at the Canadian club curling championships in Winnipeg has made it into the double knockout round.

Tyler Orme’s squad won 4 of its last 5 games to finish the round robin at 4 and 2, tied for first place in their pool.

The B.C. champs are taking on Nova Scotia Thursday afternoon.

The Vernon team also includes Trevor Perepolkin (third), Rob Nobert (second) and Jamie Austin (lead).

Vernon rink looking to make run at curling club championships

The Vernon team representing British Columbia at the Everest Canadian Curling Club Championships in Winnipeg have 2 wins and 2 losses heading into the final two draws of the round robin part of the event.

Tyler Orme’s team is in 5th place in their pool, and takes on Manitoba Wednesday afternoon and Yukon on Thursday.

The B.C. champs have picked up wins against Quebec and Prince Edward Island, combined with losses to Nunavut and Saskatchewan.

Trevor Perepolkin (third), Rob Nobert (second) and Jamie Austin (lead) are the other members of the Vernon rink.

Vernon rink vying for national title at club curling championships in Winnipeg

A Vernon team has opened play at the Everest Canadian Curling Club Championships in Winnipeg.

Tyler Orme is skipping British Columbia’s team with Trevor Perepolkin at third, Rob Nobert at second and Jamie Austin at lead.

The B.C. reps were taking on Peter Van Strien of Nunavut in both teams opening match on Monday morning.

Orme and his team qualified for the event back in April after winning the provincial club curling championship in Abbotsford.

Perepolkin won four B.C. junior men’s curling titles between 1993 and 1997 when he was known as TJ, while Orme was a teammate of Perepolkin’s for his provincial junior title in 1997.

Fourteen men’s teams and 14 women’s teams are competing in the national club championship put on by Curling Canada. It runs from Nov. 19-25 at the Assiniboine Curling Club in Winnipeg.

The fields are divided into two pools of seven teams.

After the round robin, the top three teams in each pool will make a modified double-knockout playoffs, which begin Thursday, Nov. 23, and conclude with the gold- and bronze-medal games on Saturday, Nov. 25.

The Canadian Curling Club Championships began in 2009 in Toronto. Since then, Ontario teams have won the men’s title four times, while Alberta has three, B.C. and Saskatchewan have each claimed two titles and Newfoundland & Labrador and Nova Scotia each have one.

On the women’s side, Manitoba leads the way with four championships, followed by Ontario and Alberta with three apiece, and Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Northern Ontario with single championships.
