West Kelowna adopts 20-year Transportation Master Plan
West Kelowna council has adopted an updated Transportation Master Plan, setting a 20-year framework to guide how people and goods move through the city as it grows.
Approved at the June 9 council meeting, the plan outlines a shift toward a more walkable, connected community through expanded active transportation, transit improvements and road network upgrades.
It calls for major expansion of sidewalks, cycling routes and multi-use pathways, including the 1.6-kilometre Boucherie Pathway and the Gellatly Road corridor, along with BC Transit improvements focused on reliability and expanded Route 97 Express service.
Developed through a three-phase process with extensive community consultation and technical analysis, the plan also identifies key projects such as Horizon Drive upgrades to improve pedestrian and cycling access near schools, parks and neighbourhoods, and the Elliott Road corridor to address congestion, bottlenecks and emergency access needs.
