August 22, 1948 – August 3, 2023

 

We regret to announce the passing of Edward Folk on August 3rd, at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

Ed was born in Oliver in 1948, and raised in Penticton by his parents, William and Freida Folk. After completing his degree at UBC, he moved to Vernon in 1974, with his wife, Marie, where he would spend the rest of his life.

Ed was a long-time teacher at Bearisto and West Vernon Elementary Schools and taught multiple generations of some families.  More than just a teacher, Ed will be remembered as an enthusiastic and dedicated coach who gave countless hours to children’s athletics.  He continued to coach in the school district for several years after his retirement in 2007.

In addition to coaching, Ed loved participating in baseball, basketball, volleyball, football, hockey, and golf.  He was also an avid fan of any sports.  Once retired there was not enough time in the day to record and watch every game he wanted.

Ed was a lifelong collector of antiques, especially those that related to the history of British Columbia.  He spent many weekends travelling through Western Canada scouring antique shops, garage sales, and collectible sales for items to add to his collection.  For several years he donated his time as president of the Vernon Collectors Club.

Ed and his family spent many summers camping, hiking and exploring the historical, provincial, state and national parks of North America.

Ed is survived by his wife Marie, and his children Matthew, Jillian, Jennifer and their families.

A celebration of life for Ed will be held at Coldstream Community Hall, on Saturday August 26th, from noon until 3 pm.  For those who wish to pay their respects, the celebration of life will be open to the public.
